Tax Extension DeadlineDates carried, and two that are not
Two dates are on the calendar, and the call is about which one is yours. If you are deciding whether to call, this is the list. Dates we will put on our own calendar, and two kinds of work we will not pretend to do.
See if your date is hereWhat gets carried
Personal extensions on Form 4868. Business extensions on Form 7004, once the election is known. The S corp and the personal return, in that order, when a K-1 connects them. A state report, when the state has one, on that state's own day. The estimate on the form, built from the last closed month. The return the extension was buying time for. A plan for the next year, made while the year can still be changed. Payday handed to the payroll company the owner already uses, so the wage file and the books agree. Reconciliations, statements, and reports with no assurance cover attached.
The two that go elsewhere
A balance you want negotiated is not this work. Representation in a collection matter is not offered. A statement a lender wants signed as an audit, a review, or a compilation is not this work either. The signature on an audit, a review, or a compilation is reserved for firms allowed to sign one. On that first conversation we name the limit and we name the kind of firm that can sign. The closed months can go with you. Ordinary statements leave here without an examined cover, and we will not describe them as if a lender should treat them that way.
The full limits, including the sentence about what this practice is not, live on the disclosures page. This list exists so the first call does not have to re-argue them.
If your date is on the first list
Bring the entity name. A 30-minute call is enough to know whether the month can produce the number. If your date is on the handed-on list, the call is still a fair place to hear that out loud before you spend a season in the wrong conversation. Either answer is useful. Only one of them ends in an engagement here.
Payroll setup is on the carried list only as setup. Your crew's payday continues at the company already paying them, and we leave that run alone, since an extension does not move a deposit date.
